Option two requires a respite from the basketball floor with a competitive game of ping-pong. With ping pong tables scattered throughout the property, you and your family can create the high intensity of the Final Four. You can play doubles ping-pong tournaments, singles ping-pong tournaments, or other games like “Around the World.”

Challenge yourself and your vacation buddies to a friendly but competitive game of Around the World. Any number of players can start the game. One person hits the ball to the other side of the net and immediately steps out of the way. The person on the other end hits the ball back across the net to the next player in line and then immediately steps out of the way. As the first person moves out of the way, another person is lined up to step in and receive the next “hit”. This series continues as all the players rotate the same direction so that the game rotates around the table. If a player does not return the ball to the other side of the net, they are disqualified from the game. As players get eliminated, the games speeds up as you have to cover more ground the get around the table to return the next ball. The winner is the last player in the game.

As a competitive activity, the latest “sport” has been a challenging game of scrabble. Just last week, the official game of scrabble added modern slang words to the extended word list acceptable in the game. This has revolutionized the competitive nature of the game for a younger audience. At each Grupo Mayan Resort, there is an ever-popular game cart. This cart is full of board games, cards, and books for people to use while at the resort. Lately we have send a large increase in the use and competitive nature of the game cart for Scrabble. Take a break from the pool and break into the Scrabble fun.

Scrabble is made up of a board with 15 cells wide and 15 cells high. Each players gets 7 tiles with one letter and a value on each tile. With each turn, the players build words on the board with the tiles in their hands. They can build words from the tiles already put on the board. Each letter used in the word formed will give that player a value for his turn. Based on the letters used and the position on the board, a player can earn upwards of 30 or 40 points a turn. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.

Grupo Mayan Resorts offer water aerobics classes at most of the pool areas. Young energetic instructors will turn on lively music and people will start gathering around the boom box. The instructor stands on the edge of the pool with a whistle. He leads the movements and exercises as each participant follows in the pool. As hard as it sounds to get off the lounge chair, the exercise is fun, entertaining, and in the pool! You do not even feel like you are working out!

Some of the exercises include the Grupo Mayan arm curls, the Mayan Resorts side step, and of course the traditional Samba set. You will learn how to stretch, move, and groove in the water like you have never done before! The music inspires you to keep moving step by step as you get closer to earning that refreshing beach beverage.

Once you are done, swim up to the pool bar for a cool Coco Loco or Piña Colada. After the work in water aerobics, you deserve a treat.
